About Us

Boy Scout Troop 42 follows the mission of the Boy Scouts of America which is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law.  This is accomplished by including, in the unit's program, the three aims of scouting:  Character Development; Citizenship Training; and Mental and Physical Fitness.  The three aims of scouting are achieved by using the eight methods of Boy Scouting:  The Ideals; Patrol Method; Advancement; Adult Association; Outdoors; Personal Growth; Uniform; and Leadership.

Boy Scout Troop 42 has been chartered by CrawDaddy Outdoors in Waverly since 2022 and previously Nazareth Evangelical Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls, Iowa, since 1948.  We meet regularly on Monday night from 7:00 to 8:30 in our meeting room at Nazareth Evangelical Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls, Iowa during the school year.  The Troop conducts at least one major activity for the scouts every month outside of weekly meetings, and offers as many as eight chances for overnight camping each year, not including attending Summer Resident Camp every summer.

The Troop also greatly encourages participation in high adventure experiences.  Troop 42 coordinates trips to the Boundary Waters (BWCAW) and Philmont Scout Ranch on a 2 to 3 year rotation and encourages participation in council-sponsored high-adventure trips to the Northern Tier High Adventure Base, Okpik, and the Sea Base, as well.  We also encourage scouts to attend National and World Jamborees.

The focus of our troop is the development of leadership abilities.  We give our scouts experiences in team work, effective communication, holding leadership positions, and outdoor skills practice that each scout can apply to all aspects of their lives.  It is our hope that the lessons of scouting will be utilized throughout the lives of our scouts as they grow and become adults.  It is the view of Troop 42 that Eagle Scout is not simply a list of requirements to be checked off, but a reflection of the values and abilities a scout has discovered within himself.
